It was 5: 14 a.m. When my phone buzzed on the nightstand. I squinted at the screen. A customer asking for a status update on a deliverable that wasn't due for two days. My first mistake was reading it. My second was replying, which led to a chain of questions about timeline, scope, and whether I'd seen their comments in the doc.
